Repurpose Old Jewelry Into Something You'll Wear

REPURPOSE OLD JEWELRY INTO SOMETHING YOU'LL WEAR

If you have old jewelry sitting in a drawer, I can repurpose it into something you'll actually wear. I use your own gems to adapt one of my designs or create something entirely new — working with your materials preserves sentimental value, saves cost, and reduces environmental impact.

If you have old gold or platinum jewelry you no longer wear, I can refine it and apply its full value toward your new piece. I'm committed to transparent, eco-friendly refining, fair pricing, and working within your budget.

Ready to start? Send photos of your jewelry or gems and share your vision. Together, we'll transform your materials into a piece you'll truly treasure.

WHAT CAN I REPURPOSE?

Old rings are the most common thing I'm asked to repurpose — engagement rings, wedding bands, cocktail rings that no longer suit you. But you can repurpose old jewelry of almost any kind: pieces inherited from a grandmother or mother, a single earring whose partner disappeared years ago, broken chains, outdated pieces, loose stones in a little envelope. If it’s gold, platinum, or a gemstone, it carries value — and most of the time it can become something you’ll actually reach for.

WHY I REFINE YOUR METAL RATHER THAN MELTING IT STRAIGHT INTO YOUR PIECE

People often ask whether I can simply melt down their old gold and pour it straight into the new piece. I usually recommend against it, and here’s why.

While I love incorporating materials that carry personal history, I generally recommend refining old metals rather than reusing them directly for casting.

Over the years, jewelry accumulates solder, repairs, and unknown alloys that can create porosity, pitting, or other imperfections in a new casting. The more times a metal has been melted and recast, the greater that risk becomes. Casting also requires more metal than most people expect — additional gold is needed to create the button and sprue that feed the casting process.

So instead, I refine the old metal and apply the settlement value toward your new piece. Refining transforms mixed metals into a clean monetary value that becomes a credit toward the project, while letting me cast your new piece in freshly refined metal for the best possible result.

EVEN THE ODDS AND ENDS COUNT

Broken chains, single earrings, earring backs, outdated pieces, little scraps tucked away in a drawer — send all of it. The more you include, the more value you receive.

THE FULL VALUE IS YOURS

Depending on how much gold or platinum you have to refine, it’s entirely possible the refining value could exceed the cost of your new piece. In that case, you’d receive both your new jewelry and a check for the remaining balance.

I don’t take any percentage of the refining payout. The full value belongs to you — it can either be applied toward the project or returned directly to you.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REPURPOSE JEWELRY?

Less than most people expect, because the most valuable parts — your stones and your gold — are already yours. Every piece is custom, so there’s no flat price: it depends on the design, the materials, and the work involved. You get a clear, itemized quote after a free consultation, before any work begins. Here’s my honest guide to redesign costs.

HOW WE START

Send me a few clear photos of the pieces you’d like to repurpose, along with any inspiration images or descriptions of what you’re hoping to create. Reference photos of jewelry you love are incredibly helpful — they give me a sense of your style and the direction you’d like to explore.

From there, we’ll work through style, stones, metals, shape, and scale until we arrive at something that feels exactly right. It helps to have a comfortable ballpark budget in mind — my job is to work backward from that as much as possible, and there are often creative ways to tailor a design so it achieves the look you want while staying in a range that feels comfortable to you.

There’s no cost to begin the conversation. Feel free to send the pics whenever you’re ready — I’m excited to see what you have.
