Doug’s Wedding Band: From Sketch to Platinum

Doug’s Wedding Band: From Sketch to Platinum

When Doug came to me for his wedding band, our conversations kept circling back to one theme: nature. The mountains, trees, the grounding presence of the earth—these were the images that resonated most with him. From there, I began exploring the idea of roots: anchoring him not just to the earth, but also to his wife, and to the life they’re growing together. I sketched a number of designs before we landed on the one that felt just right.

From there, I carved the band in wax, shaping organic lines that echoed tree bark and roots weaving through the earth. Each step of the process—from sketching to carving to casting—helps me connect to the story behind the piece.

Once the carving was complete, I cast it in platinum and gave it a lightly brushed finish to bring out the fine details in the woodgrain texture. Seeing the final piece emerge from the wax and metal is always magical.

The result is a ring that feels deeply symbolic—timeless, strong, and natural. I’ve always loved working with motifs drawn from trees; they only grow richer with meaning as the years pass, much like the relationships they represent.
